Cafe Bianca
Echo Park, California
The project involves the concept for the renovation of a 1933 ground-floor tenant space, transforming it into a charming cafe and bakery spanning 900 square feet. The design concept challenge is to modernize the space while preserving its historical essence, creating an inviting atmosphere for customers. The project focused on utilizing light and airy colors and woods, which played a crucial role in achieving a fresh and welcoming ambiance. These design choices were instrumental in making the cafe not just a place for dining but also a space for relaxation and socializing. The use of natural light was maximized to enhance the airy feel, and the color palette was carefully selected to complement the light wood finishes, creating a cohesive and soothing interior.
A significant part of this imagined design is the a transformation of a 600-square-foot back patio, previously used as a storage area, into an attractive outdoor seating space. This expansion would allow the cafe to offer a versatile dining experience, catering to customers who prefer dining al fresco. The outdoor area is designed to reflect the interior's light and airy theme, with comfortable seating and greenery that created a serene oasis in the urban setting. The patio is a key feature of the cafe design, offering a tranquil retreat from the bustling city life, where customers could enjoy their meals in a relaxed outdoor setting.
The design successfully breaths new life into a historic space, combining contemporary design elements with the building's original charm. The cafe and bakery could now stand as a testament to thoughtful and sensitive design, where history and modernity blend seamlessly. This project would not only revitalized a historic space but also create a delightful haven for the community, offering a warm and inviting place for people to gather, dine, and enjoy the simple pleasures of fresh bakery goods and coffee.
